Ocean City Family Beach Session | Lifestyle Photography

There’s something about the beach in March that feels a little like you’re getting away with something. No crowds. No pressure. No expectations. Just quiet, cold air… and the kind of moments that don’t try too hard to be anything other than what they are. That’s exactly what this session with Hank, Frank, and their humans felt like.

I traveled to Ocean City, Maryland to photograph this session, and these are the kinds of shoots I’ll pack a bag for every single time. Sure the location was pretty kick ass, I mean, it’s THE BEACH. But it’s mostly because of the people. I’ve photographed Amelia and Justin before, starting with their engagement session and wedding, so I already knew this wasn’t going to be a stiff, overly planned kind of session. This was going to be real life.

This is what it looks like when photos actually mean something. Not posed, or trendy or performative. Just some good old real life…with sandy paws and a couple who turned a getaway into a tradition.

She told me ahead of time: “We just want the boys to be themselves.” And that’s exactly what we did. Two dogs running full speed across an empty beach, chasing each other (and by waves), checking in with their humans, getting sand in places they definitely shouldn’t. We had the kind of soft morning light photographers dream about… and at 50 degrees in March, the beach felt like it belonged to us. By the end of it, we had tired out their little legs… and created the kind of images that don’t feel like a photoshoot. They feel like a memory.

What made this session even more special is that Ocean City isn’t just a random place for them. It’s their place. One of their first getaways when they started dating… and now something they return to every year. And now? Hank and Frank are part of that tradition. Same beach. Different chapter. That’s the kind of story I’m always looking for.

After the beach, we made a stop at one of their must-visit spots: Doggie Style, their favorite canine cafe in Ocean City. If you’ve ever loved a dog, you already know… this place is basically Disneyland. Treats, toys, excitement, and two very happy boys who absolutely knew they had hit the jackpot.

This is what I mean when I say I photograph real life. Not the version we think it’s supposed to look like… but the version you’ll actually miss someday.

The traditions.
The chaos.
The in-between moments.

Whether it’s in Blairsville, Pennsylvania or a quiet beach in Maryland, I’ll always choose that over perfectly posed.

And yes… I do travel. For sessions like this? Always.

Hank and Frank are living a doggone good life. And if this is what their “normal” looks like… I’d say they’re doing it exactly right.

If your life feels full right now…this is your sign to document it. Dogs, kids, chaos and all.
