Wedding Photography That Feels Like “Real Life”

In a world that feels increasingly filtered, staged, curated, and performative, I believe the most valuable photographs are the ones that actually feel like your life. Not forced versions of it. Not moments manufactured for social media. Real connection. Real emotion. Real people.

I photograph weddings throughout Blairsville, Indiana County, Pittsburgh, and Western Pennsylvania with a documentary-meets-editorial approach focused on emotional storytelling, intentional imagery, and honest moments that still feel meaningful decades from now… long after trends fade.

Weddings are one of the only days in your life where all of your favorite people exist in the same room at the same time.

For a few brief hours, generations collide. Your grandparents, childhood friends, parents, and the people who helped shape your life are all gathered together under one roof…laughing, crying, hugging, dancing, and creating moments that can never truly be recreated again.

Be sure you hire someone good enough to preserve it well. 🤍

so, how much is this going to cost me?

here’s the honest answer: it depends, because not every couple wants (or needs) the same thing.

…and sometimes the real question is-should you even hire me?

Because here’s the thing: not everyone needs (or even wants) full wedding coverage. Some couples are looking for a photographer who’s just there for a few posed portraits. If that’s you, I might not be your person.

But if you want someone who will work tirelessly, laugh alongside your people, and document every detail of your day with heart and intention…then we’re probably a perfect fit. You just found your photographer!

Why Experience Matters on a Wedding Day

Anyone can buy a nice camera.

What couples usually don’t realize until after the wedding is how much experience affects not only the photographs… but the overall energy and flow of the entire day.

Wedding days move FAST. Timelines shift. Weather changes. Hair and makeup run behind. Boutonnieres disappear into thin air. Someone forgets the rings. Family dynamics start family-dynamic-ing. The flower girl is suddenly emotionally unavailable. Grandma wants “just one more photo” approximately 47 times.

And through all of it, you need someone who can stay calm, adapt quickly, problem solve in real time, and still create meaningful images without making the day feel like one giant stressful photoshoot.

After photographing weddings throughout Indiana County, Blairsville, Pittsburgh, and Western Pennsylvania for over 24 years, I’ve learned how to anticipate moments before they happen, work confidently in difficult lighting situations, pivot when timelines inevitably change, and help people feel comfortable even in chaotic situations.

Because experience is knowing:

  • when to step in and when to quietly step back
  • how to keep family photos moving without making everyone miserable
  • how to work in dark churches, harsh sun, rain, snow, and unpredictable Pennsylvania weather
  • how to capture real emotion without forcing awkward moments
  • how to help people relax in front of the camera
  • and how to preserve a wedding day in a way that still feels honest and meaningful decades later

At the end of the day, great wedding photography is about so much more than “pretty pictures.”

It’s about preserving people. Relationships. Energy. Emotion. Moments that can never truly be recreated again.

have a question?

🕐 How long until we get our images?

Honestly? I’m faster than most people expect. My wedding contract says 4–6 weeks (gotta give myself that wiggle room), but my clients usually have their photos back in about 2 weeks , sometimes sooner if I’m on an editing roll. Basically, I’m an editing ninja who gets it right in-camera. 💪

📸 How many photos do we receive?

Enough to make your friends jealous and your walls happy. 😉
Seriously though, weddings usually end up with hundreds (sometimes over a thousand) of edited images, everything from the “I do” to the dance floor chaos.

💰 Do you require a retainer to book?

Sure do! Think of it as your pinky promise that you’re serious about your session.
The non-refundable retainer officially reserves your spot on my calendar and goes toward your total. Once it’s paid, we’re locked, loaded, and ready to make photo magic happen.

How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?

The short answer? As soon as you know you’ve found your person. 😊

Most couples book anywhere from 8–18 months in advance, especially for popular fall dates and Saturdays in Western Pennsylvania. That said, don’t panic if your wedding is closer than that. I’ve had couples book two years ahead and others book two months before the wedding.

Your photographer is one of the few vendors with you almost the entire day, so chemistry matters just as much as photography style. I always encourage couples to choose someone who makes them feel comfortable, calm, and genuinely excited …not just someone whose photos look pretty on Instagram.

Do you help with wedding timelines?

Absolutely. Honestly, one of the biggest parts of my job has nothing to do with holding a camera.

After photographing weddings for over 24 years, I’ve learned how much a well-planned timeline impacts the overall experience, stress level, and ultimately… the photos themselves. I help couples build timelines that allow room to actually breathe, be present, and enjoy the day instead of feeling rushed from one thing to the next.

I’ll guide you through things like:

  • how much time to allow for getting ready
  • ideal ceremony timing for lighting
  • family photo flow
  • sunset portraits
  • buffer time for real life (because real life always happens)

The goal isn’t to turn your wedding into a photoshoot. The goal is creating enough breathing room for real moments to naturally happen.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

Then we make magic anyway.

Some of my favorite wedding images have happened during rain, fog, snow, wind, or completely chaotic weather. The truth is: weather usually becomes part of the story people remember most.

Over the years, I’ve photographed weddings in everything from torrential downpours to surprise October snowstorms in Pennsylvania. The key is staying flexible, calm, and creative.

I always help couples create backup plans ahead of time so nobody is scrambling if the forecast changes.  Cloudy weather often creates some of the most beautiful, soft, emotional light for photographs.

At the end of the day, your guests won’t remember whether it rained.
They’ll remember how the day felt.

Do you photograph weddings outside of Indiana County?

Yes! While I’m based in Blairsville, Pennsylvania and photograph many weddings throughout Indiana County and Western Pennsylvania, I also travel regularly for weddings and sessions.

I’ve photographed weddings in Pittsburgh, the Laurel Highlands, destination locations, small hometown churches, barns, city venues, backyards, family farms, and everywhere in between.

If your wedding feels meaningful and personal to you, I’m probably already excited about it. 😊

How many wedding photos do couples typically receive?

Every wedding is different because every wedding day unfolds differently.

Rather than limiting images to hit a certain number, I focus on fully documenting the story of the day. Most full wedding collections typically receive several hundred edited -sometimes over one thousand images that include:

  • candid moments
  • details
  • portraits
  • emotional reactions
  • family interactions
  • dance floor chaos
  • the little in-between moments couples often don’t even realize happened

I’m a big believer that your gallery should feel like reliving the day, not just a highlight reel of the “Pinterest moments.”

Do you pose couples?

Yes… but probably not in the way you’re imagining.

Most of my couples tell me some version of:

“We’re awkward in photos.”

Perfect. Those are usually my favorite people to photograph.

I use a mix of gentle direction, movement, conversation, and prompts rather than stiff posing. I care much more about helping you feel comfortable together than making you stand in perfectly curated positions for hours.

The goal is creating images that actually feel like YOU, your relationship, your personalities, your energy, not photos that look like you borrowed someone else’s wedding from Pinterest.

You do not need to know how to pose.
You do not need to perform.
You just need to show up and exist together.

I’ll handle the rest.

What makes meaningful wedding photos age better over time?

Trends fade. Relationships don’t.

The wedding photos people treasure most 30 years from now usually aren’t the trendy details or perfectly staged moments. They’re the emotional ones:

  • the way your dad looked at you before the ceremony
  • your grandmother crying during vows
  • your friends absolutely losing it during speeches
  • the quiet five-second moments nobody else noticed

Meaningful imagery ages well because it’s rooted in connection instead of trends.

That’s why I focus so heavily on real emotion, storytelling, and documenting the day as it actually felt. Years from now, I want your photos to remind you of people, energy, relationships, and memories, not just what happened to be popular on social media that year.
