Why Micro Weddings Might Be the Best Wedding Trend Yet

When most people picture a wedding, they imagine a ballroom packed with guests, a packed dance floor, and a timeline planned almost down to the minute. But more and more couples are realizing something…Their dream wedding doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

Here in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, and throughout Indiana County and Western Pennsylvania, I’m seeing a growing number of couples choosing micro weddings—smaller, more intentional celebrations focused on the people and moments that matter most.

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing one of my favorite micro weddings to date for Rosi + Seanan, and it perfectly captured everything I love about these intimate celebrations.

What Is a Micro Wedding?

A micro wedding is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a smaller version of a traditional wedding.

Typically, they include anywhere from 10 to 50 guests, allowing couples to enjoy all the meaningful parts of a wedding day without the pressure of hosting hundreds of people.

Unlike an elopement, a micro wedding still includes many of the traditions couples love:

  • A ceremony
  • Family and friends
  • Wedding attire
  • Beautiful décor
  • Dinner or reception
  • Toasts
  • Cake cutting
  • Dancing
  • Professional photography

It’s simply a more intimate experience.

Why Couples Choose a Micro Wedding

Every couple has a different reason for planning a smaller celebration.

  • Some want to spend their budget on incredible photography, amazing food, or an unforgettable honeymoon instead of feeding 200 guests.
  • Others simply want to be surrounded by their closest family and friends.
  • Some are planning a second marriage.
  • Some have complicated family dynamics they’d rather simplify.
  • Others don’t enjoy being the center of attention all day long.

There isn’t a wrong reason. Your wedding should reflect your priorities—not anyone else’s expectations. If you’ve secretly been dreaming about something small, meaningful, and deeply personal…Consider this your permission.

I Help You Build a Timeline That Fits Your Day

One of the biggest misconceptions about micro weddings is that they’re just “short weddings.” They’re actually incredibly intentional. Because there are fewer guests and fewer moving pieces, we can create a relaxed timeline that gives you room to actually enjoy your day. When you book a micro wedding with me, I help you build a photography timeline that’s customized around your plans.

Whether that’s:

  • Getting ready together
  • A first look
  • Family portraits
  • Ceremony coverage
  • Cocktail hour
  • Dinner
  • Toasts
  • First dances
  • Sunset portraits

We’ll make the most of every minute without making the day feel rushed.

Your Wedding Doesn’t Need a Traditional Venue

One of my favorite things about micro weddings is that they can happen almost anywhere.

  • A family farm.
  • A lake house.
  • A friend’s beautiful property.
  • A cabin in the woods.
  • Your own backyard.
  • A local park.
  • A vineyard.
  • A greenhouse.
  • A mountain overlook.

If it means something to you, it can become your wedding venue. That’s exactly what Rosi and Seanan chose. Their ceremony took place on a friend’s rustic property surrounded by rolling countryside and the people they love most. It felt relaxed, personal, and completely authentic to them.

Sometimes the Unexpected Creates the Best Memories

As guests gathered for the ceremony, dark clouds rolled overhead. Just as Rosi began walking down the aisle… It started to rain. Not a sprinkle. A real summer rainstorm.

It was absolutely beautiful. Nobody panicked. Nobody seemed worried about perfect hair or perfectly dry clothes. Everyone simply smiled, laughed, and leaned into the moment.

Some of my favorite photographs from the entire day happened because of that unexpected rain. It’s a reminder that your wedding isn’t remembered because everything went exactly according to plan. It’s remembered because of how it felt.

You Still Deserve Beautiful Wedding Photography

One question I hear often is:

“Do I really need a photographer for a small wedding?”

Absolutely. Your guest count doesn’t determine the value of your memories. Whether you’re inviting 20 people or 250, this is still one of the biggest days of your life.

You’ll still want photographs of:

  • Your ceremony
  • Family portraits
  • Couples portraits
  • Candid moments
  • Details you’ve carefully planned
  • Toasts
  • Your first dance
  • The laughter you didn’t even realize was happening

The story deserves to be told either way.

To fit the needs of intimate weddings, I offer two coverage options:
