I’ve been behind a camera for more than 12 years……and a learned a few things about business during that time! My business started in very humble beginnings during a time that other successful photographers were very hesitant to “help/mentor” another fellow photographer for fear that they would take their business away-and although it was very frustrating (and disappointing) at the time, I wouldn’t have changed it for anything. Today, I’m grateful that no one would help! It forced me to really research and learn the photography business inside and out, put it into practice and learn what did and did not help to push me forward. During the process, I learned a lot about myself. I found that I gravitated towards business, marketing and cash flow and thoroughly enjoyed learning all things that went into creating a strong foundation! Within 5 years, I had left my full time (stable) job, and made the leap into full time self employment. I have been running a successful, profiting business every year since.

Despite the fact that I benefitted so much from having to figure everything out on my own, mentoring is still by far the best way to learn things – especially when it comes to the business side of things. You can click here for some mentoring use cases if you don’t believe me, as they just prove how effective mentoring can be.

My strong areas are business, marketing, cash flow, work flow. Although we may touch on editing, this is not a Photoshop or Lightroom intensive mentorship. I focus on business and everything it takes to run your business smoothly on the back end-it’s what I’ll call your foundation!

My financial advisor once used the analogy of a house. He said, you must start with a very strong foundation. The foundation is what people can’t see, it’s underground/behind the scenes stuff. It’s not flashy and you can’t really show it off….but it creates something solid for the pretty house to sit on. Now the house- others can see, it can be flashy and beautiful like the prints you edit, however, if your foundation is weak, that pretty little house can’t withstand the storms. One big gust of wind and down it goes-just like a business. So I like to say, I’ll work with you on your foundation……to create a solid and sturdy business that flows flawlessly….so that you can make money on all of the pretty stuff!

Currently, I offer online mentoring sessions for $99 per hour (minimum 2 hours). I want to answer any of your questions and share my knowledge and what has/hasn’t worked for me. This is a great way to get some one-on-one attention that is catered to you so that you can learn at your own pace.

If you’re interested in setting up an a mentoring session, please email me at jen@jenmckenphoto.com or simply fill out the contact form located above! I can’t wait to work with you!
