how I travel with my lenses | southwestern pa photographer | travel

With my trip to Ireland right around the corner (tomorrow actually…wooo!!!) I’ve gotten a lot of questions lately on how I travel with my camera equipment. I know I don’t have the guts to check my camera or lenses for fear of #1 they loose it or #2 it breaks….I mean, have you SEEEEEEN how they throw those things around. For these two reasons alone, I ALWAYS have my camera equipment with me at all times. Now, keep in mind, if I were traveling for a wedding or a an event where I was being paid to shoot, I would most certainly pack up all my equipment into my Think Tank Roller Bag and be on my way. It’s has TSA approved combination locks, it’s designed to meet carry-on size standards, front cable and lock secures laptops, and a back cable can lock and you can secure the entire bag to a fixed object–like when you have a layover and you want to fall alseep, you lock that puppy up and no one will be able to roll away with it! LOL It’s pretty much amazing!

BUT….with that said, when I’m traveling for pleasure-I like to travel lite and bring only 3 main lenses (my prime lenses) and one camera body. When I started off with photography and I was doing it more so for pleasure, I was dabbling around with my lenses a lot. At first, I was pretty unsure about the different types of lenses and what they were for, and would be asking questions like “what is a teleconverter?”, but obviously now I’m more experienced I know exactly which lenses to use and what to take with me. That’s when I use my Kelly Moore bag-I have the Classic Bag in Black with a purple inside.

No it doesn’t have wheels, BUT I simply place my Kelly Moore Bag right inside of my small carry one roller bag/tote and wa-la…..it has wheels. Plus when I get to where I’m going, I simply pull it out and now I can carry it like a normal purse. It saves my shoulders when having to walk long distanced through the airport, plus it doesn’t scream, “heyyyy, I have really expensive equipment inside of this bag”. LOL

I’m sure everyone has their own way of packing and traveling with their lenses…but for me…this works perfect!! PLUS the inside of my Kelly Moore Bag is purple…which matches my suitcase! 🙂 The zipper on the tote is located at the top, so I can simply unzip it if I need to get my camera out. I can place all my travel chargers, etc. inside of the pockets of the Kelly Moore Bag and still be able to access it if I need to. The best part is that since it’s a tote and not a specified camera roller bag, I can still use it for regular travel when I go over night so it had double duty.

I believe “Kelly Moore Bag is having a Blog Party!! She’s giving away bags, gift cards and LOTS more! Go check it out! https://kellymoorebag.com/blog

So how do you travel with YOUR equipment…I’d love to know?!
