Incorporating Who You Are Into Your Engagement Session
I’m sentimental. I like to find the meaning in things…and make them special. This is Tamara and Dave, I’ve photographed their family several times over the past few years so when he contacted me (yes HE) about their wedding, I was ecstatic! He has the same sense of humor and was a total good sport about it all!
I found out they were renovating an old farm house on their families property where they would be living when it was complete. All I could imagine was how their kids would be able to run the land and play in the same hay barns that he did when he was younger and I thought LET’S GO THERE for photos. I know some of you may be thinking….I’d rather have a styled session with a couch in the field and a fancy dress….but that’s not meaningful AT ALL. Many years from now when they are showing their Grandchildren these images, they can literally point to the places in the image and tell a story about them. You may not realize it now, but we are documenting history! <–I know that sounds cheesy but it’s the sentimental person in me.
I want to take photos that will tell stories one day. I want to photograph the authentic YOU and I love when clients pick locations that MEAN something. Is there an activity that the two of you love doing together, let’s go there. Is there a location that means a lot, let’s go there. Incorporate who you are into your session. Anyone can drag a pretty couch into a field, wear a sparkly dress and perfectly placed props……don’t be “anyone”…be you! Tell YOUR story! <3

Fun fact: I went home with hay in my camera bag. I squeezed myself between two hay bales to get the perfect shot and I have the hay to proof it!
I love that we could photograph the fields. I hit the jackpot when one of the cows walked past! haha

The skies! We lucked out on this day because the weather was calling for 20 degree weather. We ended up with a balmy 41 degrees! haha!

Be on the look out for these guys in October! I’m hoping for equally gorgeous skies!
