Meet Amya

“Welllll you know I’m Amya…” That’s exactly how she introduced herself, and honestly, that energy sums her up perfectly…bright, bold, and full of heart. At 17 and finishing her junior year at River Valley High School, Amya is living proof of what it means to combine faith, resilience, and drive. She’s just been announced as a member of the homecoming court (cue the confetti 🎉), and she’s making waves both on and off the field.

Her life is guided by her love for the Lord, her late mother’s memory, and her own “fake it ‘til you make it” philosophy. Spoiler: she doesn’t just make it, she excels.

Student, Athlete, Leader

If there’s a sport at River Valley, chances are Amya has laced up for it. She competes in competition cheer, volleyball, powerlifting, and track & field (oh, and by the way, she holds a powerlifting state record ). She also leads the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, volunteers with the boys’ varsity basketball team, and somehow still finds time to advocate for overdose and addiction awareness.

Let’s just say “well-rounded” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Dreams of a Trauma Surgeon

Amya has her sights set on the medical field, specifically becoming a trauma surgeon. Why? Because helping others in the most critical moments is where her heart lies. She thrives on challenge, and what better profession for someone who’s persevering, perfectionist, and deeply emotionally invested in everything she does?

Faith Meets Fun

While her playlists are stacked with worship music, don’t be surprised if you catch her jamming to Drake, Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, or Megan Moroney. Balance, right?

Her style is equally effortless, think athletic comfort with a splash of femininity for church days. Aerie, American Eagle, and TJ Maxx are her go-to’s.

Fun Facts About Amya

  • She’s seen Hamilton 50+ times and knows every single word (yes, all 2 hours and 45 minutes).

  • She’s a total germaphobe (and hates feet…no pedicure parties for her).

  • She’s a state record holder in powerlifting.

  • She bakes, but once accidentally made “chocolate gobs” with pumpkin pie spices. Spoiler: they didn’t taste like chocolate.

  • She’s an open book, what you see is what you get.

Faith, Family, & Legacy

For her senior session, Amya already knows what matters most: she brought her Bible and a framed photo of her mom. Those two anchors in her life are her greatest sources of strength.

Looking Ahead

When she looks back on this season of her life, Amya wants to remember her accomplishments, the ones made even more meaningful because of the hardships she’s overcome. And honestly, we know this is just the beginning of a story that’s going to inspire so many people.

From homecoming royalty to future surgeon, Amya is showing River Valley, and the world, what it means to live with heart, faith, and determination and I’m honored that I got to document this part of her life.
