elf message in a bottle | southwestern, pa photographer

First off, I can’t steal the credit for this one. Greg came up with it all on his own. He came up to bed late last night when I had JUST fallen asleep shoving his phone (bright phone screen) into my face just to show me the picture he took. It was his turn to place the elf. Mallory was up later than usual last night so our parental duties had to wait until she was fast asleep.

I posted this picture from Instagram on facebook earlier today via my Iphone of our Elf on a Shelf, Frisbee. Many of you wanted me explain how the elf magically got into the bottle. I can tell you one thing, Mallory was ecstatic this morning when she came down the steps and saw Frisbee inside.

Just like most of you, she stood there wondering “how in the world did he get in there”. Well there’s a few ways:

1. you light a match and sit him on top of the bottle (just like a hard boiled egg) and the elf will squeeze thru to opening
2. get an oversized bottle and place the elf inside the opening and then use the blow drier to shrink the bottle like he says-tee he he:

Now before you go calling the authorities about my cruelty…….

I’m just joking! HAHA!

It’s actually VERY simple. When Greg removed the label there is always some residue left over from the wrapper. It’s usually where the wrapper was attached to the bottle (our is pictured around the back). HE simply removed it and put a vertical slit big enough for the head and then put the residue back on with a little bit of glue to secure it in place and WA-LA…..elf in a bottle! I’d show you where the slit is but Mallory was so excited that she took it to school today so it’s not here.

I can’t wait to see all the Elf messages in a bottle on facebook! If you know someone who would get a kick of out of it, share this link below by clicking on the facebook icon!

Until next time…….you just never know what shenanigans Frisbee will be into next! LOL

Jen, I love love love this idea. I’m telling my dear husband to hurry up and chug his ice tea tonight so I can do this as soon as possible.

I’m flumoxed by your parental duties and Greg’s involvement here. I thought the elf found his way to these places on the way back from the North Pole. Hmmm….. 😉
