From Senior Year to Salon Life

College? Career? Where are you going? What do you want to do with your life? But Madelyn Brown, a senior at Mount Pleasant, already has a pretty good idea. Madelyn attends CWCTC, where she’s entering her final year in the cosmetology program. She also already works in a hair salon, a job she absolutely loves, and plans to continue building her career there after graduation.

So when we planned her senior photos here in Western Pennsylvania, it made perfect sense to photograph not only who Madelyn is right now, but who she’s becoming.

Senior Photos That Actually Tell Your Story

One of my favorite things to incorporate into senior sessions is something that feels genuinely personal. For Madelyn, that meant bringing along her hairbrush, scissors, curling iron and other tools of the trade. She’s wanted to be a hairstylist since she was little, and what she loves most about it is making other people look and feel beautiful. I love that she isn’t waiting until after graduation to start figuring things out, she’s already working, learning and building a career doing something she loves. And that deserves to be documented just as much as any sport, hobby or school activity.

“But I’m Not Photogenic…”

Madelyn also told me something before her session that I hear from seniors ALL the time: “I feel like I’m not photogenic.” Good news: knowing how to pose is not your job. 😂 That’s mine. I’ll tell you what to do with your hands, where to look, how to stand and all those other awkward little things nobody naturally knows how to do in front of a camera. The goal isn’t to make you look overly posed. It’s to give you enough direction that eventually you forget about the camera altogether.

A Little More About Madelyn

Madelyn describes herself as caring, hardworking, loyal, chic, adventurous, passionate and determined. She loves Morgan Wallen, Ella Langley and Treaty Oak Revival. She could spend hours outside, loves shopping, has two one-year-old black Labs, and her favorite color is pink. Oh…and cheetah print is her absolute favorite.

Obviously, the girl has range. 😂 When I asked what she wanted to remember most about this season of her life, her answer was simple: how much she has grown and matured, and how everything is beginning to fall into place. And THAT is exactly why I think senior photos matter. Someday these images won’t just remind Madelyn what she looked like during senior year. They’ll remind her of the girl who was already chasing the career she’d dreamed about since she was little.

Senior Photos in Western Pennsylvania

I photograph seniors from my studio in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, throughout Indiana County and Western Pennsylvania, and I believe your senior photos should feel like you—not a copy of everybody else’s session. Bring the football. Bring the guitar. Bring the cowboy boots. Or, like Madelyn, bring the scissors. Whatever tells your story belongs in front of my camera.

Ready to Plan Your Senior Photos?

Senior year is about more than where you’ve been. It’s also about who you’re becoming.

If you’re looking for senior photos in Blairsville, Indiana County, Westmoreland County or throughout Western Pennsylvania, I’d love to create something that feels completely yours. Let’s tell your story.
