I realize this is a little different than the weddings and portraits you are used to seeing on the blog….but I wanted to share a few positive things our local teens are involved in!!??

I want to give a big huge THANK YOU to the “Remembering Adam” group at Blairsville High School and all the Awesome-Sauce advisors/teachers who participated in Project Sticker Shock this evening at Lamantia’s Beer Distributor in Blairsville! I’m part of a Coalition for Armstrong-Indiana County called “Drug Free Communities Coalition”. The Armstrong-Indiana Drug Free Communities Coalition (DFCC) is the leading organization bringing together all the community sectors to create a safe, healthy and drug free environment in the two counties for your youth and families. Today we teamed up with Remembering Adam-an amazing group of high school students who are focused on changing individual, families, communities, and the environment in which they live.  Their vision is to create environmental change within school systems and communities that will modify attitudes and beliefs concerning substance/alcohol use.

So your probably thinking….ok, so what is Project Sticker Shock?  Well, I’m glad you asked!! Project Sticker Shock is designed to reach adults who might purchase alcohol legally and provide it to minors. Stickers warning about the penalties for furnishing alcohol to minors are placed on all multi-packs of beer, and other alcohol products that might appeal to underage drinkers. The impact of the stickers is increased by media coverage of the event and by longer-lasting signs to be displayed by participating retailers. The project represents a partnership between youth, retailers, concerned parents and community members, prevention professionals, and law enforcement with the goal of educating potential furnishers, raising public awareness about underage drinking, and strengthening the deterrent effect of the law against providing alcohol to minors. April is also Alcohol Awareness Month so with the help of Remembering Adam, we were able to send “shock” waves thru Blairsville! 🙂 Look for their photo in the Blairsville Dispatch. A big THANK YOU to Lamantia’s Beer Distributor who allowed us to come into their establishment and participated in our campaign and Courtney (and Michael) from The Open Door  for all of your help 🙂

Isn’t it nice to see the positive things our teens are involved in!!?? 🙂
