Built after the Johnstown flood of 1889, the Inclined Plane’s original purpose was to connect downtown with the higher grounds of Westmont Borough in order to develop that area residentially. During Johnstown’s two other floods in 1936 and 1977, the Incline became a lifesaver, helping people to escape downtown as well as to ship supplies into the valley….
So you’re wondering-so what? Well this is where Jennifer and Justin held there ceremony! On the overhanging overlooking the city….during a premature storm! As the lightening starting off in the distance, we made our way up the incline-the last trip before they shut it down for a few hours due to the lightening as a safety precaution. As we made out way there, I snapped a couple photos….they are among some of my favorites! They had several family from out of town, so this was an experience for a lot of them! Climbing an 896.5-foot cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope; the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other……is something you just don’t do in a lot of other states!
The images below are taken on the bridge that goes over the high way.

The images above shows the incline in the background and in the other the bride is purchasing a round trip ticket for some of her guests.

…inside one of the cable cars!

Overlooking the city of Johnstown on the way up to their ceremony.

It’s tradition to wave to the people passing by! 🙂
