Sometimes my job takes me to the coolest places!! Today, I ventured out to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium to do some location scouting for a wedding I’ll be shooting there in a few weeks. Soooo, we decided to make a day out of it! I know…my job rocks right!?
It was a gorgeous day, we had tons of fun roaming around the African Savanna, Asian Rainforest, the aquarium, etc……but WHAT WERE WE THINKING going to the zoo on the last Sunday before all the local schools are back in session……..INSANITY!!! Although you can tell from the photos-because of my magic camera skills, it was SOOO EXTREMELY crowded there today. I learned a lot about myself today….I LOVE people…..I HATE crowds!! I gravitate to ‘simple’ things when I’m shooting and I people watch…….I can’t help it. I think it’s part of how I’m trained as a photographer, to always be aware of my surroundings. Some people can be sooo rude ….and others so generous! I watched as every seat at the slides were filled with parents waiting for their children and not one single (man or woman) person offered their seat to, what appeared to be, a 7 or 8 month pregnant woman. Around the corner, I watched a man drop everything in his arms to help a handicapped woman with the door. See…I notice everything. It’s a blessing and a curse.
Mallory invited her friend Kennedy and they roamed around the zoo bouncing from one exhibit to the next. We had a great time and it was fantastic to get out from behind the computer and “LIVE” life!
The images below are in no particular order and for those of you interested, I shot them ALL with my 50mm. I wasn’t in the mood to lug around my monstrous lenses. Enjoy!
There’s a tunnel under the water that the kiddo’s can crawl under to see the sting rays…….Malllory’s eye is not really all jacked up! haha!
I’d love to have a saltwater tank in my house just like we did growing up….but that just means one more thing I’d have to clean! haha!
My favorite has always been the penguins.
She is her mother’s daughter!! The fish hardly looked intimidated!
I can’t really explain this one! haha
Not sure if you can tell or not, but Mallory made me so proud today running around taking pictures with her little pink point and shoot camera. There she is holding it and then trying to take a picture of the sea horse……I’d like to bet that my shot came out better! haha!
I love that you can see the man’s reflection in the tank right where the shark is swimming!
See look….she’s taking pictures again!
We locked up the kids while Greg and I went to get a cocktail…..JUST KIDDING!!! PS: the zoo does NOT sell cocktails! haha!
The elephants were not out in the fields-at least while we were there. They were being fed and cleaned in their stalls….which meant we got to see them a little more up close.
I love the shot of them holding hands!
Elephant teeth….and a representation of how much an elephant eats in one day.
While the girls were googly eyed over the animals, I snuck away and got them a few surprises from the gift shop……..they said the elephant stuffed animal “kinda freaks them out”! haha!
See I told you it was crowded. I could have easily cropped him out….but I found it funny! He’s not the only one who walked in front of my shots!
