Do you wanna know something….I never considered myself an artist! Ask any of my photography friends and they’ll tell you. I’ve had plenty of conversations about this topic…….but in some ways I suppose I am. I’ve always looked at photography as my “craft”. When I thought of an “artist”, I imagined someone with a paint set on top of a hill painting villas and sunsets. TOTALLLLY not me! Heck, I can’t sit still long enough to do something like that! So I always said, photography is my craft. But recently, I’m starting to accept the fact that I am an artist.
I came across this floating around on facebook yesterday and it resonated with me…… I so firmly believe this! It *IS* the art of observation..the way we see the world. I see the world the way I do because of all of my experiences, all of my heart aches, all of my struggles, the achievements, and the people I decide to surround myself with. I’d like to think I’m a happy, optimistic, not afraid to laugh out loud kinda gal….and I hope my photos reflect that! Am I the photographer for everyone? NO! Will everyone love my work…..or better yet, my “art”? NO! But I know that the ones that do……are probably the happy, optimistic, not afraid to laugh out loud kinda folks…..and that’s ultimately who I want *MY* client to be!
So think about it…..when you’re searching for the perfect photographer for your wedding, your senior photos, or family photos……pick a photographer that has the same observation on life as you! You’ll love your images so much more! Remember…” it has very little to do with the things you see and EVERYTHING to do with the WAY you see them!”

LOVE this! I was just having this kind of conversation the other day with a photographer friend of mine…I am so sharing this with her! Thank you for being you and encouraging others to do the same! You ROCK Jen McKen! 🙂
