photography nerds in Phoenix | getting our “learn on”

By January 10, 2014 No Comments

Think Star War’s convention….but instead, a bunch of nerdy photographers who flocked from all over the country dressed up like hipsters with our tights and high boots (probably carrying around a cup from Starbuck) and our camera’s-don’t forget the cameras. ……crammed into a convention room with our badges to see/and feel all the new products. I mean, we even have our own version of the light saber also known as the Ice Light (I have one and think it’s awesome!). It’s the dark side…….of “I wants, and I wish’es….and I want to shoot like that’s”. We’ll probably speak in geeky language like f-stops, shutter speeds, aperture and lighting ratios ………AND I CAN’T WAIT!!!!

I’ll be out of the office for a week while attending the Professional Photographer’s of America (PPA) Imaging conference in Phoenix, AZ getting “my learn on” in order to keep improving! Did I mention that it will be around 70 degrees?….and coming from small town, (in January) PA where it was -30 (NEGATIVE THIRTY!) the other day, it will be like going to a whole other galaxy! haha You’d think by all the comparison’s that I’m some sort of Star War’s fan…honestly, (get ready to gasp) I have never really watched an entire movie the whole way thru *GASP*. But there are some truly die-hard fans when it comes to that stuff….and I kinda feel the same way about photography. I will never stop being grateful for the opportunities that it has opened up the otherwise “out of reach” for me. I’ve been attending conferences now for 5+ years, but back when I first started it was a huge item on my list of “things I want to do” and to finally achieve that is pretty awesome-for me. I’ve been able to travel to places that were once just a thought, I’ve been able to meet some incredible people through my lenses and I’m going to this conference knowing that it’s not just going to boost my creativity, my networking ability and my business to a whole new level, but that I’m going to have the chance to meet and network with fellow photographers. 🙂

If you want to keep up with my shenanigans, follow me on Twitter (jenmckenphoto) /Instagram (jenmcken), I’m sure I’ll be sharing WAY too much! It’s how I roll! haha! In the meantime, thank you for being patient with me while I’m away while my email response times may be a little slower than usual. I do plan to check my email periodically while I’m away, I just won’t be as ninja fast as I usually am! haha!

Oh and I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t nervous about breaking the rules for my diet while I’m out there….but I figure with all the laughing we’ll be doing that’ll help burn some calories! But damn it, I *WILL* workout while I am there…there I said it, now I have to!

May the force (or Ice Light) be with you! I’m off to warmer weather! Peace out PA.

may the force be with you!
