In my opinion, the most meaningful and successful businesses come from when someone has a “why”…..a why they started as a burning passion to want to help others and it drives their entire business. Sometimes it comes when we least expect it but when it hits us- it’s like a spark. Meet Brook…..she’s on FIRE!
While her husband was deployed, she started a blog as a way to journal her feelings. It was meant to be therapeutic outlet for herself while juggling “mom-hood” raising two kids as her husband was on the other side of the world. She never for-seen that it would turn into a way to encourage other military spouses and women-whom she had never met. As others found her words encouraging and supportive her blog grew. Soon after, she partnered with a non-profit agency called “Project Healing Waters” whose mission is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. Wanting to support their cause, Brook sold earrings around the concept of using fabric of military uniforms actually worn during deployments to help raise money…. and they took off!
Due to popular depend, Brook has expanded to include the uniforms of other essential workers and fabrics of those who may have lost a loved one. Now, family, friends and loved ones can have custom earrings made from the fabric of their very own hero’s. She’s created her own inspirational t-shirt line AND her business just keeps expanding. I can’t wait to see where it’s heading next!
“Every single night I went to bed wearing one of my husbands T-shirt’s and slept on his side of the bed. You do anything to make you feel close to them. I honestly wish I had these earrings during his deployments. To be able to wear something and feel the material is something that brings you comfort. Feeling like your other half is still with you. It makes it seem like they’re not so far away. You spend a whole deployment communicating via emails mostly. Going days to sometimes weeks without talking while they’re on missions is unbearable at times. To be able to have a piece of them with you while they’re a half a world away is just amazing.
