My blog started many moons ago by posts like this. Posts that were what was going on with our family – mostly for friends and family that lived far away. As my photography career blossomed, and my stats started to show more readers, I began to post more “businessy” stuff…..but I’m taking it back to it’s roots today (and possibly tomorrow) and publishing a few personal posts. These are the times I never want to forget, the times that made me want to “document my life” and become a photographer. I didn’t want my life to consist of a shoe box of “fancy pictures in fancy backgrounds” like my sisters did before she died. You all know the story, after she died, and we went thru the box of pictures to display at her funeral, we realized that most of the pictures we had were in our fancy clothes in front of stale backgrounds. Nothing that really showed “a day in the life” perspective, just stale “look at the camera and smile” images. Although we had memories, I dind’t have anything tangible to hang on to in order to show my daughter what her Aunt Nikki was like. I think that’s why I try so hard to document Mallory’s life as much as I do. BUT……. one day, when Mallory has kids of her own, she’ll appreciate the fact that I spent so much time taking pictures!
So here goes……”how to prepare for Santa”. 🙂

Step One: Write Santa a Letter
This set of pictures actually has a story behind it. You see, the ORIGINAL letter to Santa was roughly a 5×7 card. (you can see the red and white border) but as the television commercials would come on, she’d pause the tv to write more on her list. Eventually over the course of a week or so, she ran out of space and tapped an additional 8×11 size piece of computer paper to it. She kept it by the tv so she could continue to add more stuff! hahaha!

Step Two: Set out the cookies and milk

……ohh and don’t forget the reindeer food!

Step Three: Sprinkle the magic reindeer food onto the side walk so that it sparkles and they can see where to land.

Step Four: Track Santa’s route to see how far away he is.

……after she checked it and went upstairs to bed, she kept yelling down the steps “OK, NOWWWW where is he? How far away is she now? Will he be here soon?” At which the parent’s job is to say….”He won’t come until you go to sleep.” tee he he

Step Five: GO TO SLEEP!!!

AND THEN…………. “Santa” can come to deliver the presents! Santa forgot his suit this year *wink wink*………

………BUT……he forgot to dust the snow off of his boots! Doesn’t Santa know I JUST VACUUMED THE HOUSE!!!! Hopefully Santa will bring you the best robot vacuum that you can use to clean up after him on Christmas morning!

I know I don’t have many years left before she stops “believing” ….but I’m milking it for all it’s worth. 🙂

How our family prepares for Santa to come! <3
My stepdaughter asked my wife if Santa was real and she would never forgive her if she lied. My wife told her the truth, and she then decided not to believe my wife and said she was just saying that to mess with her. Needless to say, we had cookies and carrots out this year again. 🙂
