“We met at St. Francis University through mutual friends. Rob was a sophomore and had moved to the United States after living in Taiwan for 15 years. He was born in New York City, and his Dad’s job transferred the family to Taiwan when Rob was three. He lived there until he graduated from high school, and then somehow chose teensy St. Francis for college in little old Loretto, Pa! I grew up 40 minutes outside of St. Francis (no long travel for me!). We met just a week into my freshman year but didn’t start dating until my sophomore year (his junior year). “- Ashley

“Wellllll, I’m originally from Johnstown and being a school counselor means that I have summers off! I like to spend a few weeks in August at home with my family each summer (now that I live in Philadelphia with Rob and don’t get to see them as often). So last August I was home visiting with my mom, who lives in Pittsburgh. Rob was planning to come in for a weekend to visit me/my family, and was making a HUGE deal about meeting me in Johnstown at my Dad’s house, instead of coming straight to my mom’s in Pittsburgh. He kept stressing that I meet him in Johnstown — the ruse was that my Dad had just bought a new corvette and he wanted Rob to take it out for a spin. (And Rob LOVES fancy sportscars, so this was right up his alley.) I, on the other hand, was really annoyed that Rob was asking me to drive back to Johnstown for one night, when we had plans in Pittsburgh for the rest of the weekend. He begged SO much that I gave in, but I was really annoyed the whole time that he was making me do it. Haha!! I met him at midnight on Friday at my dad’s (he had to drive in from Philly after work). And bright and early Saturday morning (6am!) he woke me up to “go for a spin around the block.” I am NOT a morning person, and grumpily agreed, but made sure to tell him, “well I’m not changing. I’m just going to wear my pajamas because no one will see me. And I’m not putting my contacts in!” So we’re taking this “spin” that suddenly puts us on 22 on the way to Ebensburg… and Rob casually says, “let’s just go to St. Francis and swing by — I haven’t been there in such a long time.” To which I said, “we were just there for a wedding last year. We need to go back home, we have plans today!” And he pushes it and we turn on to the long road to SFU…. and Rob is trying to be sweet and reminisce about our memories there, “remember that nursing home we volunteered at?” .. meanwhile, “Pump Up the Jam” comes on the radio and I’m busy pumping it up in the seat!!!! We finally pull onto campus and Rob slows down, and I finalllyyyy started to catch on. He pulled up to where we met, and Rob stops the car, and is only a couple words into his planned speech when I started freaking out, asking “what’s happening?!” and then I said “uhh, should we get out of the car?!” …. the rest is history. 🙂 🙂 🙂 ” – Ashley

“We like to ride bikes or take walks in parks together. We like taking trips to new places together and spending time with our families (and our cat — Stella!) Family is very important to both of us. We enjoy going out to eat and having Friday night dates watching Dateline! Haha! While planning this wedding, we designated each Wednesday as “Wedding Wednesdays” and used that time to make a million decisions each week haha! To be honest, we just enjoy each other’s company doing anything as long as it’s together. “- Ashley
Rob’s 3 Random Facts:
1) I get WAY too into TV. Ashley usually has to pause the show and remind me that the actors/reality tv stars can’t actually hear me.
2) I have way too many hobbies and not enough time. But whichever hobby is currently my favorite is the one that consumes my life. Be it Brazilian jiu jitsu, hunting, shooting, fishing, computer games, you-tube-ing, camping, running, biking, lifting…too many hobbies, not enough time.
3)I grew up in Taiwan and know surprisingly little about a lot of common US things (i.e. American football rules and positions, US geography, TV shows from the ’90s, etc…). I’m still learning!
Ashley’s 3 Random Facts:
1) I’m a massive tennis nerd who reads about/watches a TON of professional tennis. I attend the US Open(and a lead up US Open tournament in Cincy) each year and obsess over tennis 24/7. It’s intense.
2) I love to knit! I make lots of baby blankets, scarves, etc… (and have half of a cardigan from 2013 and the toe portion of a left sock from 2010 finished. So I don’t finish EVERY project. Ha!)
3) I’m just all-around goofy/young at heart. This is probably why I like to work with kids so much. I constantly dance around the house, make up silly words for things (Rob says I have my own language — thankfully, he speaks it), and enjoy laughing about silly things with my friends (at our sleepovers of course! ha! I’m a kid at heart!)
