When Macie first filled out her senior questionnaire, she mentioned she loved the idea of fields and dirt roads. As someone who spends her free time outdoors hunting, kayaking, running, helping her family care for their longhorn cattle, and soaking up everything country life has to offer, I knew exactly the kind of setting we needed. Living in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, and photographing seniors throughout Indiana County and Western Pennsylvania, I’ve learned that the best senior sessions happen when we stop trying to force a trendy backdrop and instead choose a location that feels authentic to the person standing in front of the camera. For Macie, that meant weathered barns, rolling hills, wildflowers, a covered bridge, and the kind of golden summer evening that photographers dream about. I don’t think we could have picked a more perfect place.

A Session That Felt Like Summer

One of my favorite things about this session is how effortlessly everything came together. The soft blue floral dress looked right at home against the dark wood of the old barns. The evening sunlight wrapped around her as she walked through the fields. The wildflowers added just enough color without stealing the spotlight.

Then we changed into a simple white top and jeans, creating an entirely different look while staying in the same beautiful location. It felt relaxed. It felt natural. Most importantly… It felt like Macie.

Three Completely Different Looks, One Senior Session

One thing I always tell seniors is that your gallery shouldn’t feel repetitive. I want you to look back at your images years from now and feel like you experienced several different sessions all in one evening. With Macie, we created exactly that.

Rustic & Editorial

The dramatic barn doors, weathered wood, and warm evening light created portraits that feel timeless and artistic.

Soft & Romantic

The blue floral dress flowing through the fields added movement, color, and just the right amount of elegance without feeling overly styled.

Casual & Effortless

A simple white top and light denim completely changed the mood of the session, creating relaxed portraits that feel youthful, genuine, and full of personality. The variety gives seniors a gallery that tells a complete story instead of looking like the same photo repeated over and over again.

More Than an Athlete

Macie is a senior at Marion Center High School, where she’s involved in basketball, cross country, track, and softball. It’s easy to see why she described herself as active, fun, and happy. She has the kind of personality that makes everyone around her feel comfortable. Whether she’s spending time outdoors, cooking, working out, traveling to Florida, or enjoying a matcha, she brings an easygoing energy that made photographing her feel effortless. And yes… She also makes what she describes as a pretty mean loaf of sourdough. I’m still hoping one of my seniors brings me a sample someday.

You Don’t Have to Have Life Figured Out Yet

One answer in Macie’s questionnaire really stood out to me. When I asked what she wanted to do after graduation, she simply said… “I’m having a hard time figuring this one out still.”

I smiled when I read that. Because I think we sometimes expect seniors to have every answer before they’ve even graduated high school. The truth is, senior year isn’t about having your entire future mapped out. It’s about celebrating who you are right now. The dreams you’ll chase. The friendships you’ll remember. The confidence you’re just beginning to discover. Those moments deserve to be documented just as much as the destination.

Why I Love Senior Photography

Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing seniors. It’s never really about the outfits. Or the locations. Or even the photographs themselves. But preserving a season of life that changes almost overnight.

One day you’re driving dirt roads with your best friends, laughing until the sun goes down. The next you’re packing for college, starting a career, or figuring out what comes next. These photographs become a reminder of who you were before life started moving so fast. And that’s something worth holding onto.

Five Fun Facts About Macie

  • She loves cooking.
  • Peanuts are her favorite snack.
  • Florida is one of her favorite places to visit.
  • She’s a huge matcha fan.
  • She’s incredibly close with her sister, Lydia.Since Macie is incredibly close with her sister Lydia, we made time for a few sibling portraits before wrapping up the session. I always encourage families to bring siblings along if they’re available. It only takes a few extra minutes, and those updated photos together often become some of the most treasured images from the entire session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where was this senior session photographed?

This session took place at a beautiful countryside location in Indiana County that offered incredible variety, including rustic barns, open fields, a covered bridge, wildflowers, and scenic rolling hills.

Can I choose a location that matches my personality?

Absolutely! One of my favorite parts of planning a senior session is helping each senior find a location that reflects who they are. Whether you love downtown streets, open fields, the lake, your family farm, or somewhere completely unique, we’ll create a session that feels like you.

I’ve never had professional pictures taken. Is that okay?

Of course! In fact, many of my seniors have never had professional portraits before. My job is to guide you every step of the way so you can relax, have fun, and enjoy the experience.

What should I wear for my senior pictures?

Choose outfits that feel like you. I always recommend bringing a mix of casual and dressier clothing so your gallery has variety. Solid colors, timeless pieces, and clothing you feel confident wearing will always photograph beautifully. Before your session, I’ll help you narrow down your outfits and make recommendations based on your location.

How many outfits can I bring?

Most senior sessions include multiple outfit changes, allowing us to create several different looks throughout your session. A flowing dress, casual outfit, and something that reflects your personality or hobbies often create the most well-rounded gallery.

Can I bring my siblings?

Absolutely! If your siblings are available, I’d love to photograph you together. Senior year is a milestone for the whole family, and it only takes a few extra minutes to create updated sibling portraits that parents absolutely love.

Can I include my horse, truck, dog, or other hobbies?

Yes! Your senior session should tell your story. Whether that’s a horse, your first car, sports equipment, hunting gear, musical instrument, or your family farm, incorporating meaningful parts of your life makes your photos even more personal.

When should I schedule my senior pictures?

Most seniors book their sessions during the summer before senior year or early fall. Booking early gives you the best selection of dates and ensures your photos are ready for yearbook deadlines, graduation announcements, and prints.

How long does a senior session last?

Most sessions last up to two hours, giving us plenty of time for multiple locations, outfit changes, and creating a gallery with lots of variety.

Do you travel for senior sessions?

Yes! While I’m based in Blairsville and serve seniors throughout Indiana County and Western Pennsylvania, I also travel for sessions. If you have a dream location in mind, let’s talk about it!
