Workshop: The Bui Brother’s, in Pix-burgh. They’re kinda a big deal…. fo-show! ( organized by the fantastical LeeAnn Marie Photography) And YES I know I’m breaking the golden rule of blogging by posting a ton of photos……but it’s my bloggity and I can post what I want to…post what I want to. Tee he he!!
I won’t lie, it was a bit intimidating. I’ve been doing photography for the past 8-9 years and to think that there is still SOOO much I STILL want to learn. I have this flame that keeps burning to learn more and more and to become better, but sometimes there a gust of wind that comes whirling by that can cause this flame to flicker and almost go out. It’s overwhelming to think of all the things that go into running a successful business. I have my days/weeks/months where I think I suck, I’m horrible, I can’t believe people pay me…then as quick as the wind came by it leaves and the flame is burning even bigger than before. After talking with the Bui Brother’s at their recent workshop in Pittsburgh, Vu mentioned that if you didn’t have that desire to learn more or be hard on yourself (we are our own worst critic) you would be come comfortable and stale in your work. I think I needed to hear that. Another thing they talked about was how each photographer is different in the way they see and document things, this comes from life experiences…and alot from personality. People choose a photographer based on their images but HIRE them based on their personality. I’ve always said that I don’t know how I’ve gotten so lucky to get such awesome clients….but the truth is, I’m attracting clients that are attracted to my personality, that have similar personalities and that “get me”. I’m picky when it comes to which weddings I will shoot. If you are looking for dark, contrasty photos…I’m not your gal. On the other hand, if you are looking for fun, colorful photos with personality…give me a call!!
The energy in the room at The REX Theatre was awesome. These guys are amazing, self taught photographers and cinematographers and it is truly inspiring to see how they have been self made into what they are today. We had the opportunity to learn from them, chat with them and laugh with them. Total down to earth awesome guys. I left there with a brighter flame and I got to meet 18 other fantastical photographers. (quick shout out: Jennifer Detar Photography, Alisa Garin Photography, Courtney Katherine Photography and Joelle Photography–woot woot!!!)We roamed around near Carson Street photographing our models …other people just thought we were a group of paparazzi photographing someone famous. We just let them go on thinking we were! LOL
The drive back was horendous! After stopping for some kick arse Gyro’s we hit the road for the trip home but the rain was relentless and it didn’t help that a honking mack truck was trying to race me….actually I think he was checking out Courtney and Joelle!! Ladies thanks for riding down and carpooling….you pretty much rock!!
