This Is My Grandma
I remember this day vividly, as if it were yesterday. What started out as a lighthearted joke turned into something truly magical. I told her to grab a few dresses from her closet because I was going to turn her into a model for a movie-star photoshoot. And that’s exactly what we did. She twirled, she giggled, and she laughed like a carefree young girl. She was so full of life that day, and I’ll treasure not only the photos but also the core memory of that experience forever.
At the time, my Pap had recently passed away. She had been his full-time caregiver, and if you’ve ever cared for someone, you know how it can turn your life upside down. Later, she confided in me that she felt truly beautiful that day. It was the first time in years she’d put on her lipstick, pulled out her old “dancing” dresses, slipped on her fur coat, and let her hair down and out of the pins she usually wore. She glowed. And her joy brought me joy. Core memories were made that day.
