I’ve been taking these photos for the pat 13 years. Thirteen years of waking up way earlier than them so I could be ready to document the first day of each grade. My goal…was to create a big album for her when she got to 12th grade. Well, that sure did creep up on me. As she drove off in her little white car, I was reminded that this is the first year she didn’t ride the bus- the first year she drove away in her own car. It makes me proud and sad all at the same time. Was she annoyed with this me this morning?…YEP. Did I care?….NOPE. I was determined to get photos of this year to complete that album. Someday, maybe she’ll understand but in the meantime, I’m going to start planning how to get photos for the first day of college! hahah! Kidding-kinda.
So now I have to do the same for Levi. I watched Levi pick out his Spiderman backpack at the store for the school year and couldn’t help but wonder how many years I had left of super hero backpacks before he’s too cool to carry one anymore. I’m soaking it up while it lasts because I know from going thru it with Mallory….time flies by so fast! And situations change, decor changes, style changes and little things like paint colors, furniture and pets come and go. These images are like a time capsule and although life has changed a lot recently for everyone, I hope they can at least look back on these images and know that we loved them SOOO much that we annoyed them every.single.year. and when Mom and Dad are long gone, they’ll tell their kids (or their therapist) about this one day-who knows, maybe they’ll do the same for their kids because Mom did it for them!
And yes…Mallory has a minion backpack! haha!
